Visitors Flock to Miami, Fort Lauderdale

Join us for the First Annual Travel + Adventure Business Expo & Conference, Miami, FL, Jan. 21-23

Our last visit to Florida was overnight from Seattle aboard US Air, for the America Travel Market in Orlando. Our editors plan to return for the Annual Golf Travel Market this year in St. Petersburg to show off our Golf Supermap 2000 - fourth in a series. It's easy to see why so many Eastern Canadians, Quebecers in particular, are turned on to this area as a Winter Escape; so now thanks to the Open Skies agreement, and a variety of travel options available, its Western Canada's turn. We'll be talking about Florida hotel, resort and transportation packages, plus many other delightful perks. More on this pleasant topic to come.

Miami's visitor industry was on a roll this winter, with hotels booked solid for major events such as the Miami International Film Festival, Coconut Grove Arts Festival, Miami International Boat Show, Ocean Drive's Volley Palooza, Grand Prix of Miami, Greater Miami Mardi Gras, South Beach Wine & Food Festival, Winter Music Conference, Carnaval Miami and Ford Championship at Doral &endash; just to name a few.

"We topped 10.5 million visitors and our hotels are reporting a very strong winter season to date," said William D. Talbert III, Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) President & CEO. "Even if the New York Times hadn't just announced that Miami and South Beach were hot, you only have to try and book a hotel room to know it's true."

As Miami's visitor industry gears up for its summer festival season, with hot deals and cool events (www.festivalseason.com), hotels and other industry partners have announced the following major developments.
