THE CANADIAN ARCTIC

Come Out On the Land

"Come Out On the Land" is an Inuit term. Take it as our invitation to explore Nunavut. This is our planet's most mysterious destination. The Canadian Arctic reveals itself as the "black diamond" of real adventure travel. You may believe that you are an experienced adventurer, however, travelers will find this to be an exhilarating destination.

Do you have the right stuff, the spirit of adventure, and a curiosity for exploring the unexplored? You may walk the path of explorers and adventurers that came in the early years for the sake of adventure and discovery.

Visit the planet's most well kept secret: Nunavut. Scan the horizon in every direction. You will come to admire the courage and heroism of those that came before you on their way into history.

There is only one North Pole and there is only one place to experience the Canadian Arctic: Nunavut. It is one-fifth the landmass of Canada and nearly 2 million square kilometers of the last untouched location on earth. Air or sea is the only way to Nunavut. There are no roads to Nunavut.

Nunavut will change the way you think about real adventure and true sustainable travel. You will interact with the Inuit people, whose ancestors have been the trusted stewards and protectors of this incredible place for over a thousand years. We invite you to share the experience of the territory, meet the Inuit people. The name Nunavut means "Our Land" in Inuktitut, the native language of the Inuit people. Our land will become your land as you participate in events and activities offered by any of the 20 hotels managed by the Inns North.

When you cross the 60th parallel into Canada's Arctic, be prepared for an adventure beyond compare, in one of the most scenic and historic parts of the world. "If you are looking for a unique travel experience combined with living history, we welcome you to visit one of our Inns North hotels. The warmth of the people and a taste of the culture will leave you with memories to last a lifetime. Come celebrate with us in 2007 as we welcome Igloolik, Nunavut to our family of 20 independently owned and Co-operative controlled hotels," notes Jeff Provost, Manager of Public Relations for Arctic Co-operatives Limited. "But be careful - the unspoiled beauty, clean air and blue skies will tempt you to visit again and again."

Inns North are a chain of Co-op owned hotels in 20 locations through out Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. Inns North is a program of Arctic Co-operatives Ltd. that ensures service standards while providing management support and a central reservation system for the hotels.

Imagine the myriad activities that await you and your companions:

Enter the Northwest Passage Marathon on Somerset Island in August. This is the most northerly-held marathon and reigns as the world's most northerly ultra-marathon. You will participate under the arctic sun against the majestic backdrop of the historic Northwest Passage.

Go SCUBA diving under the icy blue glaciers. Try sea kayaking and canoeing, enjoy camping, (from igloos to otherwise!), hiking and climbing. There are floe edge tours, historic and cultural tours, dog sledding, world-class fishing, and so much, much more!

Observe Polar Bears, Arctic Wolves, Orcas, Narwals, Snowy Owls, Snow Geese, Tundra Swans, and other wildlife in their natural environment. Watch Inuit artisans carve soapstone and create beautiful handcrafted beadwork. Listen to Inuit throat singing. Learn about the Franklin Expedition and see historic artifacts.

Stand in the ethereal lights of the Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, a display of colored lights in the sky, caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole.

"Nunavut truly is a paradise for people who love nature and culture," says Brian Webb, Marketing Director for Nunavut Tourism. "From unique wildlife, to remarkable vistas, to spectacular culture, Nunavut is unlike any other place on the planet."

Feel free to contact your travel agent for further information relating to seasons, temperatures, and best times for travel.

Once you have Come Out On the Land, and actually seen and experienced Nunavut, your adventure will never end or fade. It is replayed over in your mind and those of your companions. Your memories and your photos become an unbroken chain of your experiences. You will not forget your journey to the top of the world.
